As an experienced nurse and case manager, Carole will be discussing the fit-to-fly process for those with long term health conditions and the management of health issues when abroad. She will cover the process for determining if a client is fit to travel, identifying and managing the health risks for clients when away from home and their usual medical support systems, travelling with medication and contingency for delays/running
out of medication and the availability of different preparations of medicine abroad, travelling with a feeding tube, liquid feed and associated equipment, potential dehydration in hot climates, and continence management. All of which is vital information for a case manager in order to support clients effectively

Amy specialises in Court of Protection property and finance deputyships for clients who lack the mental capacity to manage their own compensation awards. James Glasper specialises in representing and securing compensation awards for adults and children who have suffered life changing injuries, in particular spinal cord injury and brain injury.
Together they will be discussing planning and paying for holidays and the different considerations for children and adult clients, support worker management and pay when supporting clients abroad, insurance, and the implications for a personal injury/medical negligence claim, i.e. recovery advice, access to funds etc.

Emma is an experienced case manager who supports children and young people with complex needs and their families. She is well versed in supporting clients to travel abroad to go on holiday or to visit family and she will be presenting a case study to demonstrate what happens in practice. She will also share some documents which are useful for assisting case managers to consider the various aspects when planning a holiday- clients’ individual holiday requirements are infinite but there are some fundamental considerations that apply to all.

Travelling opens up many possibilities but it also poses a range of practical challenges. Tryb4uFly is an assessment service and it gives people a chance to test out various matters and find solutions before committing to a flight, such as equipment, baggage, navigating security, boarding the plane, wheelchairs, transfer equipment, postural support and seating, and oxygen

Anita is an experienced case manager who works with adult clients who have sustained a brain injury, and especially those with executive dysfunction. Over the years she has supported many clients to go on holiday abroad and has helped them to manage their cognitive difficulties, including impaired memory, impulsivity and the challenge of decision making when in novel situations, and the inevitable increased risks when away from home and their usual routines and structure. Anita will be presenting a case study to demonstrate what happens in practice
